Simbol dan Makna Spiritualitas pada Struktur Koreografi Tari Topeng Rumyang dalam Perspektif Semiotik

Abstract
ABSTRAK: Tari Topeng Rumyang merupakan salah satu jenis dari Tari Topeng Cirebon yang menggambarkan sosok manusia remaja yang lincah dan bijaksana. Dalam Tari Topeng Rumyang tersebut terkandung nilai serta makna simbolik dari sturktur koreografi, desain topeng, serta tata busananya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis struktur koreografi Tari Topeng Rumyang dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotik. Pendekatan semiotik digunakan untuk mengungkap makna gerakan Tari Topeng Rumyang sebagai sistem tanda yang mewakili nilai-nilai budaya dan spiritual masyarakat. Studi ini menjelaskan bagaimana tanda-tanda koreografis dari berbagai ragam gerak menyampaikan makna tertentu dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce dan Roland Barthes. Teknik pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui observasi Tari Topeng Rumyang, wawancara dengan seniman Tari Topeng Cirebon, dan dokumentasi terkait dengan struktur koreografi Tari Topeng Rumyang. Teknik analisis data yakni melalui pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa struktur koreografi Tari Topeng Rumyang terdiri dari tahapan dramatik yang menggambarkan perjalanan spiritual manusia. Setiap gerakan memiliki hubungan simbolik yang kuat dengan prinsip-prinsip lokal seperti keselarasan hidup, kesucian, dan ketulusan. Melalui pendekatan semiotik, tari ini dapat dipahami sebagai teks budaya yang memuat sistem tanda kompleks, baik secara tekstual maupun kontekstual. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa koreografi tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai bentuk estetika, tetapi juga sebagai media komunikasi budaya dan spiritual. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi dalam pelestarian seni tari tradisional melalui kajian ilmiah, serta memperkaya pemahaman tentang makna simbolik dalam pertunjukan tari tradisional Indonesia
ABSTRACT: Rumyang Mask Dance is one type of Cirebon Mask Dance that depicts a lively and wise teenager. The Rumyang Mask Dance contains values and symbolic meanings in its choreography, mask design, and costume design. This study aims to analyze the choreographic structure of the Rumyang Mask Dance using a semiotic approach. The semiotic approach is used to reveal the meaning of the movements of the Rumyang Mask Dance as a system of signs representing the cultural and spiritual values of the community. This study explains how the choreographic signs of various movements convey specific meanings using the semiotic theories of Charles Sanders Peirce and Roland Barthes. Data collection techniques were obtained through observation of the Rumyang Mask Dance, interviews with Cirebon Mask Dance artists, and documentation related to the choreographic structure of the Rumyang Mask Dance. Data analysis techniques included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the choreographic structure of the Rumyang Mask Dance consists of dramatic stages that depict the spiritual journey of humanity. Each movement has a strong symbolic connection to local principles such as harmony in life, purity, and sincerity. Through a semiotic approach, this dance can be understood as a cultural text containing a complex system of signs, both textual and contextual. This finding affirms that choreography not only functions as an aesthetic form but also as a medium of cultural and spiritual communication. This research is expected to contribute to the preservation of traditional dance through scientific study, as well as enriching understanding of the symbolic meaning in traditional Indonesian dance performances.
